In a post on Facebook, Snapsaved.com was quoted as saying, “I would like to inform the public that snapsaved.com was hacked, the dictionary index the poster is referring to, was never publicly available. We had a misconfiguration in our Apache server.” They also reiterated that Snapchat’s services were not hacked as the images do not originate from their database.
Interestingly enough they also claim that only around 500MB of data was stolen, although this seems to go against other reports which seems to suggest that around 12-13GB of data was stolen from the servers. In any case the good news is that the entire website and database has since been deleted.
We suppose if anything this should teach users to be more careful when using third-party apps or services. It looks like this issue is over and done with for now and hopefully users will be more vigilant in the future.
