We know that Apple Pay will work with the Apple Watch thanks to the sensors on the underside of the watch that will be used to authenticate the wearer. It’s an interesting idea and an alternative to customers who don’t plan to buy the new iPhones. However it seems that this enthusiasm is more prominent in markets like the US and China.
This is according to a recent survey conducted by German market research firm, GfK, which seems to indicate that smartwatch-based mobile payments are more well-received in the US and China, compared to other countries in Asia as well as Europe. The survey polled 1,000 participants in each country – the US, UK, Germany, South Korea, and China.
According to their findings, 54% of Chinese and 40% of American respondents claim that they are interested in using a smartwatch-based payments method. This is compared to 27% of participants in the UK and South Korea, and 20% in Germany. Moving on to other features like health information, 70% of Chinese, 50% of American, and 43% of South Korean consumers expressed their enthusiasm.
However over in Europe, only 33% of UK and 25% of German respondents revealed their interest in storing their health information on their smartwatches. It’s an interesting study and if it is any accurate, will provide crucial information to companies like Apple on how best to approach said markets.
