This was revealed by Google’s Paul Eremenko who was speaking during a recent interview at Purdue University. According to Eremenko, Google will be basing Project Ara’s marketplace on the Google Play Store. “The Ara MDK is free and open and available to everybody, so everybody could create a module per the specifications of the developer’s kit and put it in the Ara module marketplace, which is analogous to the Google Play store, and sell directly to consumers.”
As it stands it is unclear as to what kind of modules might be available for Project Ara at the start. However Google has been asking developers to create modules and come up with ideas and will even be awarding the best idea $100,000. We’ve heard the possibility of Sennheiser’s audio technology being a possible module, and concept images have shown how Project Ara could be used as a handheld gaming device.
In any case we guess we’ll just have to wait until Project Ara is released to find out more, but in the meantime what kind of modules would you like to see made available at the start?
