The previous rumors have suggested a 13MP camera, but it looks like that isn’t true. Instead would-be owners can look forward to a camera with a 16MP sensor. This is according to Oppo’s CEO, Tony Chen, who took to Weibo to boast about the upcoming handset’s camera, which he revealed not only to be of the 16MP variety, but would also have a 1/2.3-inch sized sensor.
While this is tiny compared to most cameras, especially more recent compacts like the Sony RX100 III or the Canon PowerShot G7 X with their 1-inch sensors, it is larger than some of the competition like the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy Note 4, the HTC One M8, and the iPhone 6. Of course how well it actually performs remains to be seen, but it does sound rather promising at the moment.
Unfortunately Chen did not provide additional details about the handset in his post, but with the Oppo N3 pegged for a launch in Singapore on the 29th of October, we guess we won’t have to wait too long to find out. In the meantime does the idea of a 16MP 1/2.3-inch camera sensor sound appealing to you?
