Not too long ago Nokia announced that it was releasing HERE Maps for Android. There was just one caveat though. The mapping software was exclusive to Android devices made by Samsung. Well there’s good news today if you have been waiting for Nokia’s mapping service to land on your Android device. Today the company has announced that HERE Maps is being released for all Android devices, so it is no longer exclusive to Samsung handsets.
The best part is that HERE Maps for Android is immediately available for all compatible smartphones so there is no waiting involved. The mapping service itself is in beta stage right now for Android so that’s what you’ll be able to download. It has not yet been posted to the Google Play Store so you will have to directly the app file directly from Nokia and then sideload it on your device.
Ever since Nokia released this app for Samsung’s Android devices it has received comments and feedback regarding its features and performance. The company says that it is already working on changes, fixes and new features based on feedback from users.
Instructions for sideloading the app on your Android device are available on the official HERE Maps blog. You will find the download link for the app file there as well.
As far as compatibility is concerned you will require an Android smartphone that’s running version 4.1 Jelly Bean or higher. For best results Nokia recommends smartphones with at least 1GB RAM and a screen size between 4-6 inches.
