Over the past few years, Nintendo’s sales have been described as disappointing, with sales of the Wii U and the 3DS falling short of Nintendo’s estimations and with the company going as far as slashing their sales forecast from 9 million to 2.8 million. It sounds very doom and gloom, doesn’t it?
Well it looks like things could be looking up for the company as Nintendo has recently announced (via Engadget) that they have recently managed to turn a profit. The company has recently made a profit of 24 billion yen (around $224 million). This is a huge reversal for the company who last quarter managed to lose 9.9 billion yen ($97 million).
The company has also revealed that they have managed to sell 3.2 million copies of Super Smash Bros. worldwide, which safe to say helped to contribute to Nintendo making a tidy profit. Given that the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. hasn’t even been released yet, we can only imagine Nintendo making an even bigger profit when it is released on the 21st of November.
The release of the company’s new 3DS consoles probably helped attribute to their profit as well as Nintendo saw an increase of 3DS sales where they managed to sell 1.3 million units, an increase of 480,000 from last quarter. However despite this, Nintendo’s overall sales are still down 12.8% over last year, but we guess this is still better than nothing.
