That being said if you consider yourself an audiophile, you might be interested in a new streaming service called Tidal. It is launched by a Swedish based company called Aspiro and it will cost you a whopping $20 a month. This is significantly higher than most services available at the moment, but at the same time the fact that it offers 16-bit FLAC streaming will probably appeal to the audiophile.
According to Andy Chen, the CEO of Aspiro, he admits that Tidal might not necessarily be for most users. “This service is not for everybody. Spotify is for everybody. You don’t even need to pay! But for quality, you have to pay. It’s for people frustrated by the progressively worse fidelity we’ve gotten from music.”
Tidal will be available across all platforms, including mobile such as iOS and Android, as well as the PC. As it stands, the service will only be available to those living in the US and the UK, but the company expects that they will be expanding to other countries in the future.
