After dominating the original TV show business with hit productions such as House of Cards and Orange is the new Black Netflix has now set its sights on the big screen. Just yesterday the online streaming video giant announced that it is going to put money into the production of a sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. That’s not the only movie Netflix is putting its money into. It will also be financing four movies starring Adam Sandler, which the actor is also going to make.
Netflix has said that all four of these movies will be exclusively available on its online streaming service. It hasn’t confirmed whether or not they will be released in conventional movie theaters as well like the Crouching Tiger sequel will be.
In a press release Netflix has said that its decision to go with Adam Sandler was partly based on the fact that his movies are some of the most popular movies on the streaming service, so it makes sense for the company to try and cash in on that with projects that could otherwise be classified as “straight to DVD” movies.
Given the kind of movies Sandler usually acts in its likely that all four will be firmly in the comedy genre. He’s not exclusively signed to Netflix though, Sandler can continue to make movies with traditional studios as well.
