However gamers might be pleased to learn that even if Microsoft had not acquired Mojang, Minecraft would have made its way onto Windows Phone anyway. This is according to Jens Bergensten, a developer at Mojang who tweeted that the Pocket Edition of Minecraft for Windows Phone has been in the works for a while now.
It seems that Mojang and Microsoft had already been working together on porting the game over onto Windows Phone before the Redmond company announced their acquisition plans. This was confirmed by another developer at Mojang, a Tommaso Checchi who reassured gamers that they weren’t “forced” into making Minecraft for Windows Phone.
Unfortunately the developers could not provide a timeline as to when we might see the game being released for Windows Phone, so we guess we will just have to remain patient and wait for its release. In the meantime it seems that Microsoft’s intentions for Minecraft would be education, where they will use the game to teach children about science and technology.
