Microsoft Sold 9.3 Million Lumia Smartphones

In its latest earnings report, the folks over at Microsoft did make mention that they shifted 2.4 million Xbox console units over to retailers, which means that not all of them have been sold and made their way into the homes of consumers. What other kinds of gems can we unearth from Microsoft’s latest earnings report for the first quarter of the fiscal 2015 year? Well, it seems that the Redmond-based company has also sold 9.3 million Lumia handsets in the process, which is a fair number taking into consideration their current market position.

Of course, the tech giant did manage to bring home a net income of $4.5 billion from a revenue of $23.2 billion, which is still a whole lot of dough when you think about it. Still, this net income is lower than the $5.24 billion it picked up during the corresponding period last year, which can be attributed to $1.14 billion worth of restructuring expenses that occurred from the company’s acquisition of Nokia.

At least there is an increase of the number of Lumia smartphones sold in this quarter, which goes to show that the world is slowly embracing Windows Phone willingly. It still does not look as though Microsoft is going to overtake the likes of Samsung, HTC, Apple and LG in terms of smartphones sold anytime soon. [Press Release]
