If you have visited Kmart or Dairy Queen recently and paid using your credit or debit card, you might want to keep an eye out on your statements for any potential fraudulent activity. This is because according to reports, Kmart and Dairy Queen has recently had their payments systems hacked.
According to a statement released by Kmart, “Beginning in early September, the payment data systems at Kmart stores were purposely infected with a new form of malware (similar to a computer virus). This resulted in debit and credit card numbers being compromised.” This was similarly confirmed in a statement issued by Dairy Queen as well.
While the hack allowed hackers access to customer names, numbers, and expiration dates of said cards, both companies claim that there has not been any evidence to suggest that any of the data has been stolen. Thankfully both companies have since mentioned that the security hole has been plugged, but we guess customers should keep an eye out anyway.
Kmart and Dairy Queen’s hack is not the first and joins a growing list of companies who have had their systems hacked. Earlier this year Target was hacked and it was just last month that Home Depot had their systems breached as well. Neiman Marcus and Michaels have also reported to have been hacked.
