Phillip Lechter, owner of the alleged iPhone 6 that bent and subsequently caught fire, claimed that he was riding a pedicab when the vehicle was involved in an accident. The force of the accident sent Lechter against the wall of the cabin in which he was riding in, resulting in the handset being bent badly, and catching fire afterwards. It is truly an alarming, if not unique situation for Apple.
Apparently, the battery experienced a puncture after being bent, and the natural consequence of that was a fire. Of course, it must be said that just about no other handset could have resisted such an impact, but if the iPhone 6 was not vulnerable to such bending, could this have been avoided?
