ios-8.1-main

At its event today Apple talked about the next major update for iOS 8.1. Ever since the new software was released last month over 48 percent of all supported iOS devices have been updated to the latest version. Keeping in mind the feedback Apple received following the release it has made certain improvements which will now come as part and parcel of iOS 8.1.

We had heard rumors that perhaps the beloved Camera Roll might be brought back with iOS 8.1. Apple confirmed this today. Camera Roll is indeed coming back. It will be back where you would expect it to be after you install iOS 8.1 once it starts rolling out on October 20th.

iOS 8.1 also brings iCloud Photo Library, albeit in beta. Its a new feature that Apple first showed off at WWDC 2014 where it first took the wraps off of iOS 8.0. This feature allows you to store photos and videos from all of your devices in the cloud. Any changes made on one device will automatically be applied across all devices. The photos and videos are shared in their original resolution and format, there’s no downsizing.

Support for Apple Pay is finally coming with iOS 8.1. This update will allow iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users to make purchases online and at physical point-of-sales at supported retailers using Apple’s new payments service, which goes live on October 20th as well.
