We already know that Nokia HERE was destined to land on Android in the near future. Recently an APK was also leaked online allowing folks with devices running on Android 4.0 or higher to get a look at what HERE for Android has to offer. Now the official Nokia HERE for Android release has taken place. The app is available for download, in beta, through the Samsung Galaxy Apps Store. Yes, its exclusive to a handful of Samsung devices for now.
Users can either sign-in with a HERE account, create one if they don’t have it, or through Facebook. Alternatively they can also use the mapping app without having to sign-in with either account.
However there’s a reason why people would probably want to register before using as it would allow them to create Creations, which are basically sets of map bookmarks that have been categorized. These are then stored in the cloud against that particular account meaning that they can be accessed via any device.
Nokia HERE for Android is available for Samsung Galaxy smartphones powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean or higher, with 1GB of RAM or more, and capability to access Samsung Galaxy Apps Store.
There’s no complete list of devices which are compatible with this app as Nokia has clarified that this decision rests squarely with Samsung.
