Speaking at Vanity Fair’s New Establishment Summit in San Francisco, Google X’s chief Astro Teller was quoted as saying, “I have learned, at a certain next level, that wearables are tough.” Teller also adds that unless you are able to provide consumers with something they don’t already have, it will be a pretty hard sell.
Google’s own wearable, Google Glass, has been met with a lot of opposition from establishments and the public. While it does seem like a pretty creative idea and a good one at that, many have voiced their displeasure at the idea of being recorded with the Google Glass camera, while some establishments like casinos have banned it due to the possibility that it could be used for cheating.
In fact while many were excited to see Apple launch the Apple Watch, a recent survey found that as far as teens were concerned, there wasn’t much excitement or intention to buy the device upon its release, but what do you guys think? Are we still waiting on that wearable that will light a fire under the industry, much like the iPhone did for smartphones and the iPad for tablets?
