Google’s wearable device needs to be connected with a smartphone so that it can access the internet and help you send text messages, emails, use Hangouts and more. Previously the wearable device could only display notifications from supported apps like Gmail. Now though any and all notifications that pop up on a connected Android device can be beamed straight up to Glass.
This new feature is called Notification Sync. It provides the MyGlass app notification access so that users don’t need to whip out their Android device whenever it buzzes. Be it a WhatsApp message, a notification about your Lyft arriving or a new BBM message. Glass will now display those notifications.
This feature isn’t exactly new in the sense that it has already been present on Android Wear, a relatively new platform that Google has introduced specifically for wearable devices. Now it lands on Glass and eliminates the need to take out the smartphone every time it receives a notification.
In order to take advantage of the Notification Sync feature on Google Glass you will need the latest Glass update which is going to be released this week. The latest version of MyGlass Android app is also required and it has been released today.
