Well it seems like Tesla could be rolling out these self-driving cars a little earlier than expected. In an interview with CNNMoney, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk was quoted as saying that he believes that Tesla car’s in 2015 will be 90% capable of autopilot, which will be achieved using a variety of sensors, image recognition, and radar.
Interestingly enough it was back in September where Musk was quoted as saying that self-driving cars are about 5-6 years away from happening, although we’re guessing he means fully self-driving cars. At the moment cars are able to “drive” themselves through cruise control, although the driver will still need to keep an eye on the road and the steering wheel to control the car.
Other car manufacturers have similarly predicted that it will be a while before we could see fully self-driving cars hit the road in terms of both the technology and the laws regarding them, so it will be interesting to see what Tesla will be able to achieve next year, but what say you?
