This is according to a tweet by Discover who responded to a question asking about the lack of support on Apple Pay. According to Discover, they claim that they are currently in discussions with Apple on adding their cards to the supported list of cards by Apple Pay in the future. “We are in discussions with Apple to add Discover cards to Apple Pay in the future. Hoping it will be soon!”
Unfortunately they did not dive into specifics, such as when it would be added, but we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled for more information regarding its availability. Apple Pay was released today alongside iOS 8.1. So far we’ve seen a couple of videos which shows the payment system in action at places such as McDonald’s and Walgreens.
Mobile payments have been around for a while now and we’ve seen efforts from the likes of Google and Softcard, with the latter teaming up with the major US carriers for support. However it seems that Apple Pay is generating quite a fair bit of buzz, but at the moment it is still a bit too early to tell if it will be able to set a new standard.
