CyanogenMod has come a long way from back in the day in which it existed as a ROM for Android users who were frustrated with the skinned UIs that OEMs tend to load their phones with. The team has since spun off into a company called Cyanogen Inc. and have worked with the likes of Oppo and OnePlus in terms of delivering their ROMs preinstalled on their devices.
Well it looks like the folks at Cyanogen Inc. will be making their way to India, thanks to a recent deal with the folks at Micromax in which it will see CyanogenMod being preinstalled on Micromax’s phones. While Micromax might not be a name familiar to some of us, they are reportedly the largest mobile phone supplier in India.
Word on the street has it that Micromax could be churning out a CyanogenMod loaded smartphone by the end of the year, although it will be interesting to see if the phone will be of the high-end variety, or if it will be a low-end smartphone which will have a bigger appeal to the masses in India.
After all one of CyanogenMod’s strong suits was its ability to run smoothly on a wide variety of phones, whether it be a high-end flagship device, to a budget handset. Either way we guess we’ll just have to wait and see, but what do you guys think of CyanogenMod slowly expanding their horizons? What else would you like to see from the team in the future?
