Bluetooth speakers have typically gotten a bad rep simply because there are some who do not believe that speakers are meant to be wireless as it could distort some of the audio qualities. That might be true, but at the same time they are incredibly portable which makes them great if you’re going on a trip.
That being said, the folks at Bang & Olufsen have recently taken the wraps off the BeoPlay A2. These are the company’s first Bluetooth speakers which is interesting given that the company has been known for their high-end home theater systems, and surprisingly they cost around $399/€350/£299 which is less than what we had initially thought.
The BeoPlay A2 speakers will feature a thin design. It’s made from aluminum and has a polycarbonate shell covering both sides. In some ways it reminds us of the iPhone. The speakers will also come with a leather strap that you can use to hold onto or hook it onto a rack in your room to help spread the music around.
The speakers will feature a power output of 180 watts, a woofer, a tweeter, and a passive bass radiator, all of which will be crammed into the speaker’s tiny body. Unfortunately there does not appear to be a Bluetooth speakerphone feature which seems to be pretty common in Bluetooth speakers. The company claims that they’d rather focus their efforts on bringing customers the best sound possible.
As for battery life, Bang & Olufsen is boasting a whopping 24 hour battery life, although they claim that in their tests, they have managed to squeeze out around 30 hours but they state that 24 hours should be what most customers end up experiencing.
