This morning, Apple announced its new lineup of tablets and computers. The company will certainly disrupt the 4K monitor market with its brand new 27-inch iMac 5K Retina desktop computer (5120×2880) that delivers a stunning image quality with 14.7 million pixels, which is 57% more than the regular 4K technology and 7 times more than 1080pfull HD. According to Apple, a 4K monitor costs about $3,000, so getting a full 27-inch computer with a 5K retina display for $2499 looks like a real bargain, which is an unusual positioning for the manufacturer.
On top of this, the display is only 5 mm thin and consume 30% less energy than the previous model, thanks to its new LED backlight technology. To achieve such greatness in image quality, Apple had to design a brand new display controller, the chip that controls all the pixels.
