It is expected that Google will officially announce their new Nexus devices tomorrow, as well as the official name for Android L. Google had recently released a teaser video in which a variety of L-named desserts were seen trying to “audition” for the title. Previously we had heard reports that Lemon Meringue Pie and Lollipop were possible contenders, but now it looks like the latter is a strong candidate.
This is according to a screenshot obtained by the folks at MYCE. The screenshot in question, as you can see in the image to the right, is from the Chromium Issue Tracker and reveals a de-bug icon in the notification tray. If you look hard enough, it looks like a lollipop with the Android head on the top, which has led to many to speculate that Lollipop could be the final moniker.
However it is possible that the screenshot might be a fake. Back in 2013, many had expected Key Lime Pie to be a possible name for Android 4.4, and a screenshot had surfaced back then with a key lime pie icon appearing in the notification tray. However Google surprised us all when they announced that Android 4.4 would be known as “KitKat” in a partnership with Nestle.
Could Google be looking to pull a fast one on us and reveal something completely unexpected? Or will the rumors and speculators get it right this time? Either way do check back with us tomorrow for the details.
