Google unveiled the next major iteration of Android at I/2014 and at the time it was introduced as Android L. Yesterday the company officially announced the launch of Android 5.0 Lollipop, the aforementioned major iteration. It will be pre-installed on Nexus 6 and Nexus 9, and will also land on previous Nexus devices by the end of next month. Other OEMs have already confirmed that this update will hit their device, the latest is NVIDIA with a confirmation for its SHIELD tablet.
A couple of hours back NVIDIA confirmed through a tweet that Android 5.0 Lollipop for SHIELD tablet will be released. The most important detail is missing from this tweet though. It doesn’t mention the date on which this update is likely to be rolled out for this device.
NVIDIA dubs it the “ultimate tablet for gamers.” Under the hood is a Tegra K1 chipset which is ample to power more than 400 SHIELD optimized games available for this tablet.
It is anyones guess right now when NVIDIA will roll out Android 5.0 Lollipop for this device. The original SHIELD tablet received the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update four months after it was officially released and users had to wait for five months just for Android 4.4 KitKat to arrive.
Hopefully it won’t take that long this time around.
