South Korea is said to be Samsung’s stronghold market, and it makes perfect sense as well. After all, Samsung happens to hail from South Korea, so it would be appropriate for a sense of patriotism to help buoy sales of whatever smartphones and tablets that they release. However, it looks as though that patriotism can only go so far, as Apple’s new iPhones were estimated by analysts to have sold close to a whopping 100,000 units within a short period of time.
Made available for pre-order since last Friday, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were apparently snapped up in a matter of minutes. KT Corp, which happens to be one of the major carriers in that part of the world, claimed that both models amassed 10,000 orders in the first minute of availability, and within the first 30 minutes, that figure hit the 50,000 mark. Another unnamed carrier claimed to have recorded 20,000 orders in the first 20 minutes of pre-order.
Analysts estimate of the new iPhones having sold nearly 100,000 units is noteworthy, since that is three times the number of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 models sold within a similar period of time. Counterpoint Research cites that Apple currently ranks 4th in South Korea with 6% of the market share, whereas Samsung occupies top spot with 63%, but the gap could very well be closed if Apple keeps up at this pace.
