This is great if there are some videos that you want to rewatch or want to watch later, but you don’t want to have to stream it all over again. This also makes it a useful feature for those who are traveling and want some entertainment but are worried about roaming charges or lack of internet connectivity.
According to YouTube executive Ceasar Sengupta (via Medianama), “Within the coming few weeks, much of YouTube will be available offline in India. This is huge, and our users will really, really like this. You can download a video once, save it to your phone, and watch it again and again.”
It also appears that there does not seem to be a restriction to the type of video you can save for offline viewing, unlike YouTube Music Key which seems to be limited to music videos. No word on whether Google will be bringing this feature to other markets around the world, but for now it looks like India could be getting it before everyone else.
