However the good news is that according to analyst Michael Pachter’s latest estimates, it seems that Wii U sales have actually increased for the month of August. His report claims that in the month of August, 390,000 units of the Wii U, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 were sold. He adds that sales of the Wii U doubled year-over-year to 65,000 which he believes is thanks to Mario Kart 8.
As for the PS4, it seems that the console had only managed to sell 175,000 units which was down 7% month-on-month, while the Xbox One managed 150,000 units sold which is up 14% from the previous one. As to why the Xbox One is selling better than before, Pachter claims that it is because of Microsoft’s unbundling of the Kinect which saw the Xbox One priced at $399 which is $100 cheaper than what it used to be.
Will the Wii U continue to sell more every month and perhaps reach the levels which will satisfy Nintendo? Perhaps, although with Super Smash Bros. pegged for a release for the end of the year, there is a good chance we could be looking at yet another spike of interest in the console again.
