U2 Not Involved With Apple iPhone 6 Announcement

A rumor was circulated earlier this week that legendary rock band U2 is involved with the Apple iPhone 6 announcement. It was claimed that the band will be releasing its new album exclusively on the iPhone 6 and that it would also perform at Apple’s event which has been scheduled for September 9th. A representative for U2 has shot down these rumors.

In a statement provided to the Independent, a representative for the band U2 categorically denied that “they are not releasing their album on the iPhone, and they are not performing at the iPhone launch.

The rumor made sense initially because U2 has a history with Apple. Back in 2004 Apple released a U2-edition iPod, which was the first collaboration between the company and the Irish band. However U2 defected to Canada based BlackBerry in 2009. Bono said they made this decision because Apple wasn’t too willing to bring U2 into its product development process.

But that didn’t mean the end of all collaboration. Apple works with Bono’s Product (RED) charity that’s devoted to the fight against AIDS. The company sells Product (RED) branded devices and a portion from those sales is donated to the charity, so far the amount collected through these sales has crossed $75 million.

So its time to let our hopes fall down. There’s no new U2 album coming out on the iPhone 6 and we certainly won’t be able to watch them perform at the event. Some other time then.
