EA’s The Sims 4 was released last week and it is the fourth major installment in The Sims franchise. Now given how many titles have been released so far, we can only imagine that we could be looking a The Sims 5 or maybe even The Sims 6 in the future, right? Well here’s the thing – if you’re a fan of the franchise, there is some good and bad news regarding the future of it.
According to the game’s developers, Maxis, it seems that The Sims 5 might not happen unless The Sims 4 does well. This is according to the game’s producer Grant Rodiek on the official Sims forums where he wrote, “We’re not working on Sims 5. We’re not thinking about Sims 5. If Sims 4 isn’t successful, there won’t be a Sims 5.”
We guess we’re not surprised that the developers aren’t working on The Sims 5 yet as The Sims 4 was only released last week, but it’s interesting to note that the future of the franchise will be dependent on the current title’s success. However with the changes that Maxis has made to the game, such as visual improvements, it could be enough to draw gamers in.
Also based on initial feedback, it looks like the game is doing quite well for itself has it has managed to reach the number one spot on the UK’s chart’s last week, pushing the number one title Metro Redux down to the third spot, but what do you guys think? Will The Sims 4 be successful enough to warrant a sequel, or could this be the last title in the Sims franchise?
