Now if you were looking forward to seeing a Hudl smartphone with an affordable price tag, you might be disappointed to learn that according to a recent report from Tesco, it seems that the company’s plans for an Android smartphone have been put on hold. It seems that the smartphone market space has proven to be too competitive which is why they have decided to put their smartphone plans on ice for now.
According to Robin Terrell, Tesco’s Group Multi-Channel Director, “The technology sector is fast changing and constantly evolving and since then, the mobile market has become even more competitive. So in early July, I took the decision that we would put the phone on hold and concentrate on the hudl 2 tablet.”
In some ways it’s not surprising. After all while Tesco is huge in its own right, it does not have the same resources that tech companies like Apple, Samsung, LG, and HTC have access to, which means that it would be harder for them to churn out an affordable yet competitive product. No word on when Tesco plans on jump starting their Hudl smartphone project again, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled all the same.
