Swype Will Launch Alongside iOS 8 For $0.99

If you’re looking forward to the release of iOS 8 primarily because you can’t wait to install third-party keyboards on your iOS device, you might be pleased to learn that Swype will also be launching alongside iOS 8 on the 17th of September, which is later today. Unfortunately the app will not be free and if you want to install it, you’ll have to pay a price of $0.99 for it, which we guess isn’t too bad to begin with.

For those who are unfamiliar with Swype, the keyboard gained notoriety on the Android platform because of the way it allowed users to type. Instead of pressing individual keys, users could swipe over the keyboard to form words. In some cases it has proven to be faster than a regular keyboard, although it does take some getting used to.

The keyboard, assuming it is anything like the Android version, will be able to learn over time your typing habits and choice of words. Users will be able to add words to the keyboard’s vocabulary. Unfortunately there is no global dictionary that Swype will be downloading at launch, unlike SwiftKey, but like we said it should pick up on your habits in a matter of time.

Swype will also feature different keyboard themes that will suit the occasion and your personal aesthetics. In any case the keyboard app should arrive in the iTunes App Store later today, so if you enjoyed the Swype experience on Android, then you’ll want to keep an eye out for it.
