They say that having a killer game is perfect to help a particular company sell more of its consoles, and folks who have yet to jump aboard earlier on might just do that when they discover how great a particular title is. I suppose when it comes to the case of Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 3DS, it might help boost hardware sales simply because the slide pads on their 3DS were unable to withstand the rigors of some insane gaming. Having said that, in the first week of release in Japan alone, the Super Smash Bros. for 3DS title has sold over a million copies, making it a runaway success right from the get go.
Nintendo themselves have confirmed this particular sales figure, touting that the sales milestone of one million units were achieved in its first week on the market in Japan alone. This particular figure takes into account physical retail sales as well as digital downloads, which means Super Smash Bros. on 3DS has not sold through the entire of Nintendo’s shipment to Japanese retailers to date.
This would place Super Smash Bros. for 3DS alongside other first-week million seller achievers on the portable gaming handheld platform in Japan, including the likes of Pokemon X/Y, Capcom’s Monster Hunter 4 and Level-5’s Yokai Watch 2. Is this a precursor of what is to come outside of the Land of the Rising Sun, when the title will roll out this coming October 3rd across North America and Europe? Only time will tell.
