Amazon tried its hand at the set-top market earlier this year by launching the Amazon Fire TV. The set-top box puts many of the online retail giant’s own services front and center while also supporting some popular third party content services. Those who have been pining for more music streaming services on the Amazon Fire TV have something to look forward to. Spotify Connect support has been confirmed for Amazon’s set-top box.
The Fire TV was initially launched in the US only. Recently it was announced that the set-top box is also going to be sold in other countries around the world, particularly those located across the pond in Europe. Exact sales figures have not been disclosed so it can’t be said for sure exactly how well Amazon’s first attempt at the set-top box has performed in the market.
Nevertheless starting today millions of Spotify users in the U.S. can now enjoy music from the service on their Amazon Fire TV. This becomes possible due to a feature called Spotify Connect which requires a premium subscription to the music streaming service.
By using Spotify Connect on their Amazon Fire TV users can control music through the Spotify app on their mobile or tablet. Music streaming can be seamlessly switched over from mobile device to TV freeing up the device to make calls or use other applications. Even if the device goes outside Wi-Fi range the music streaming won’t stop.
