Just yesterday Skype rolled out an update for its iOS 8. The update brought support for the latest iteration of Apple’s mobile platform called iOS 8. Since the new software was released on September 17th developers have wasted little time in updating their applications so that they fully support the new iOS release. Interestingly yesterday’s update didn’t have support for the significantly larger iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus display sizes. Now Skype confirms that an update with this support for both new iPhones will be released next month.

A spokesperson for Skype says that the company is currently working on an update to Skype for iPhone which scales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus screen sizes. As you would probably know by now these smartphones have 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays, the largest ever on Apple’s smartphones. Per the spokesperson this update is going to be released in October.

This means that if you have a new iPhone and want to use Skype, you’ll still be able to download it from the App Store and use its features but the app wouldn’t scale the way it should on the larger displays.

If you can disregard that and live with an app that doesn’t scale properly, then by all means go ahead and download the Skype app on your new iPhone!
