Samsung has announced yet another smartwatch and its called the Gear S. However there’s a major difference between this wearable device and almost all of its rivals. Having a standalone wireless connection means that the Gear S can be used to send text messages and make or receive phone calls without having to pair a compatible smartphone. Texting isn’t possible without a keyboard, and voice recognition doesn’t work perfectly with every English accent, so Samsung decided to tap Fleksy.
Fleksy is a well known keyboard developer for Android devices. The keyboard is a popular third party solution for those who are not satisfied with the built-in keyboard in Android smartphones and tablets. Fleksy calls itself the “fastest keyboard in the world.”
This partnership makes Fleksy the only fully integrated third party keyboard in the Samsung Gear S smartwatch. Users will be able to write in any app they want straight via the smartwatch’s display. This is the first OEM partnership for Fleksy which also confirmed that it will continue support for the Fleksy Messenger app that’s available for Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches. A major update for that app is also promised.
All Samsung Gear S units will come preinstalled with the Fleksy keyboard. Samsung provided IFA 2014 attendees with demonstration of the product and its default keyboard.
