On September 9th Apple finally put an end to rumors about its wearable device plans. We were expecting the iWatch and we got the Apple Watch instead. Manufacturers like Motorola have gone with the round shape from the get go for their smartwatches whereas Apple has stuck with the square shape trend. Could Apple ever do a round Apple Watch in the future? One can never rule out this possibility, Alcion certainly hasn’t, the designer took to Photoshop and 3D rendering to create a beautiful round Apple Watch concept.
Apple has also done something very different with its first smartwatch. Instead of making it rely upon touch input only the company went ahead and kitted it with a “digital crown,” through which users can scroll, zoom and even press whenever required.
Alcion’s concept of a round Apple Watch integrates the digital crown as well. The user interface seems to work with a round display as it is, including some apps like the activity monitor. The dedicated button Apple has fitted on the smartwatch for bringing up favorite contacts is present in this concept as well.
Its merely a proof of concept that a round Apple Watch can work. We must not forget that this is a first-generation product, surely Apple is going to make changes in future models. Should it go for a round design too? I’m sure many would agree.
