This is according to a report from Jack Marsh who broke the news, and it was later corroborated by the folks over at 9to5Mac and Re/code. Apparently this Retina iMac is in line with the rumors and that it will sport a 5K display with a resolution of 5120 x 2880. It is also rumored to be using Intel’s Haswell processor due to the delays in Broadwell.
Interestingly enough Apple has also been rumored to be making the switch to AMD’s graphic cards, as opposed to using NVIDIA’s GPUs which they have been for a while. Then again Apple has been known to switch between both companies as they see fit, so this would hardly be a surprise if it were true.
The report goes on to state that the Retina model will be limited to the 27-inch model only and the 21.5-inch model will keep using a 1920 x 1080 display. Some have expressed their skepticism at a 5K iMac, but thanks to the new DisplayPort 1.3, a 5K iMac would be possible, although to be honest we’d hate to think just how much it could cost.
