BlackBerry routinely joins forces with Porsche Design to create a special smartphone that usually costs more than a couple of grand. It has become an annual tradition of sorts over the past couple of years. Obviously the products are only ever purchased by people who appreciate and can afford the finer things in life, which is why it didn’t surprise anyone to see that the launch event for Porsche Design BlackBerry P’9983 took place in Dubai. Prior to the event BlackBerry showed off this device on its website and the event confirmed when it will be hitting the market.
Since its a collaboration between BlackBerry and Porsche Design the label itself is one of the biggest reasons why this device is so expensive. It is built with premium quality materials which include sapphire glass for camera lens, forged stainless steel for the chassis and the floating Porsche Design logo as well as a special glass-weave technology for the back door.
This is also the first QWERTY version with BlackBerry 10 that has specially crafted “glass-like” keys with silver font characters and a special 3D effect coupled with “durability of rigid synthetic material.”
The device is powered by BlackBerry 10 OS and brings all of the softwares features, particularly its much hyped security features. Porsche Design BlackBerry P’9983 owners also receive a unique PIN from the Porsche Design PIN range, exclusive accessories, a premium stereo headset and more with every unit.
Pricing for the Porsche Design BlackBerry P’9983 will vary by region but expect it to be over $2,000. The device will be available from select carriers and retailers as well as Porsche Design stores around the world starting early next month.
