According to the folks at 9to5Mac, they have heard from their sources that due to the massive demand for the iPhone 6, accessory makers are facing some issues in trying to get their hands on components for Apple’s Lightning connectors. This will most likely prove to be a pain for companies looking to create accessories such as battery cases, docks, and so on.
Apparently Apple had purchased the bulk of inventory for Lightning connectors and the authentication chips, thus leaving third-party manufacturers stranded and unable to proceed with production because of the lack of components. One of 9to5Mac’s sources have also told them that the components are currently being reserved by Foxconn for Apple and their preferred partners.
This is probably impact smaller OEMs the most, while bigger accessory brands will hopefully not encounter the same issues, so if you’re wondering why there is a lack of new Lightning cable accessories for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, this could be why.
