It looks like there is going to be a new version of the Oppo R1 in due time, at least in Malaysia as the smartphone has just received a refresh in the form of the Oppo R1L. While it might look pretty much similar to the Oppo R1 on the surface, there have been some subtle changes introduced which might just make you lust after the refreshed model. For starters, the 5” display at 720 x 1280 resolution will remain the same, but the innards is now powered by a quad-core 1.6GHz Snapdragon 400 CPU. Not only that, the 7.1mm thin body houses 1GB RAM and 16GB of internal memory to boot.
There will be no microSD memory card slot, so you might want to be a bit more prudent and selective when it comes to transferring files as well as installing apps inside. As for the rear camera, it will be upgraded to hit 13MP with an aperture of f/2.0 from the previous 8MP shooter, and that ought to pave the way for decent looking images shot in low light conditions. The very same Sony IMX214 sensor is used here as the one in the OnePlus One and the Oppo Find 7.
Other than that, you will find Oppo’s Color OS 1.2 running on top of Android 4.3 KitKat, with a 2,410mAh battery that keeps it going. The asking price is roughly equal to that of $370 after conversion.
