The next update that Windows Phone handsets are expected to receive has been given the codename Denim. One of the new features that Microsoft will be introducing would be an always-listening mode with Cortana, as well as camera improvements, such as improving its camera speed. Sounds good, right?
Unfortunately if you’re the owner of a Nokia Lumia 1020. you will be disappointed to learn that the camera speed improvements in the Denim update will not be making its way onto your handset. This is according Juha Alakarhu, one of the camera developers at Microsoft, who revealed in his tweet that the older chipsets used in the Lumia 1020 would not allow this.
He writes that achieving a smooth experience on the phone would be very difficult, so we guess while it technically could work, it just would not be a very good experience and we’re guessing an unsmooth performance would kind of negate the speed improvements anyway. It is possible that eventually Microsoft could figure out a way to get it to work, or perhaps come up with a compromise.
Until then, we guess Lumia 1020 owners would be out of luck. However Microsoft recently did state that they are interested in creating more Lumia 1020-type devices with powerful cameras, so perhaps you could consider upgrading if and when Microsoft does announce such devices.
