This is according to a question posted on Google+ in which a user asked Motorola’s Punit Soni if there will be a Verizon developer edition Moto X this year. Soni replied with a short and curt “Unfortunately no.” We guess there will be some developers who might be bummed, but we guess it’s not really that big of a deal.
Usually developer edition handsets come with their bootloaders unlocked, thus allowing developers to load up custom ROMs on their phones easier. However given how active the Android community is, we wouldn’t be surprised if there were ways to unofficially unlock the new Moto X’s bootloader, which we guess would be a few more extra steps for the developer.
That and the fact that developer edition handsets are usually off-contract would also mean that it is more expensive to purchase, thus discouraging regular users. In any case what do you guys think? Are you disappointed at the lack of a 2014 developer edition Moto X handset?
