New Report “Confirms” HTC Will Be Making The Nexus 9

htc-logo2It wasn’t too long ago the in a legal document written and submitted by NVIDIA that they had seemingly confirmed that HTC would be the manufacturer of the upcoming Nexus 9 tablet from Google. It’s an interesting choice given that HTC has not manufactured tablets in a while, but according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, they themselves have confirmed that HTC will indeed be making the new tablet.

The report claims that the reason Google has chosen HTC over other OEMs is because they are trying to avoid having one particular OEM hold a monopoly over Google’s Nexus devices. So far HTC’s only involvement with Google and their Nexus lineup would be the first ever Nexus handset, the Nexus One.

Other companies like ASUS and Samsung have pretty much been responsible for a good many Nexus products since, which we guess is why Google saw that maybe it’s about time to switch to a different OEM. While Google and HTC declined to speak about the rumors, Google did make a statement saying, “Android is a vibrant ecosystem, and many of the industry players are doing very well. There’s room for many partners to do well and to innovate with Android.”

HTC’s last tablet effort was probably the HTC Flyer which unfortunately did not do as well as the Taiwanese company had hoped. Perhaps HTC will do better with the Nexus 9, but either way with its release pegged for the 16th of October, we guess we won’t have to wait too long to find out.
