So far its only available for purchase through the PlayStation Store but plans have been finalized for the disc release. Sony confirmed today that the Minecraft PS4 Edition disc release is going to take place on October 3rd.
You might have heard this week that Microsoft was interested in acquiring the developer behind Minecraft. Indeed it was and just a couple of days back Microsoft announced that its acquiring Mojang for $2.5 billion. Now before you get all worried that Microsoft is going to make the console version exclusive to its Xbox let me be the one to tell you that Microsoft has committed to support competing platforms like the PlayStation.
Minecraft lovers will get the ultimate gameplay experience on consoles. The PlayStation 4 Edition has worlds 36 times bigger than those on the PlayStation 3, and players are allowed to import their saves from PS3 to PS4.
Those who will be purchasing a Minecraft PS4 Edition disc come October 3rd should also look out for the day 1 patch which will also be released on the same day. Sony has said that more information about the PS Vita Edition of Minecraft will be revealed in a few weeks and it will finally be explained how Cross-Buy works between PS3 and PS Vita editions.
