Out of the 18,000 people who will be made redundant, there will be 12,500 of those that will affect employees whom Microsoft acquired when they picked up Nokia’s handset and services business. Microsoft officials did mention that the overall workforce reduction effort will take place across several waves, and 1,351 of the first round of employees cut will affect those who happen to work in the Redmond area.
It remains to be seen just how many people will lose their jobs by the time the latest cuts happen, and whispers have it that this Thursday, September 18th, is D-Day for those who are on the chopping block. Word on the street also points to the second round of cuts affecting just about every group or division at the software giant, and there might even be more than 18,000 in total who will end up looking for a different job at the end of the entire exercise.
