Microsoft Confirms Mojang Purchase

It looks like what has been rumored is finally confirmed, which is a good thing, actually. Microsoft has just confirmed that they have acquired the game known as Minecraft alongside the studio that created it – Mojang, for a cool $2.5 billion (instead of the rumored $2 billion figure). Do companies actually purchase other companies in the millions now? I suppose the more important question after this particular acquisition would be, “What will Microsoft do with Minecraft?”

There might not be any need to panic just yet, as Microsoft does not want to create any ill will, as they intend to continue to make Minecraft available across all the platforms which the game runs on at the moment, ranging from the PC to iOS, Android, Xbox and PlayStation.

Microsoft now owns all of the Minecraft intellectual property, including the game, licensing, and any other rights involved, but they are not going to have the game’s creator, Markus “Notch” Persson, under their employment since Notch, Carl, and Jakob will call it a day. I suppose now is a good as any time to retire with the amount of moolah (undisclosed) that they will be getting, although you can more or less be sure that for people of their caliber, resting and relaxing would probably be the last thing on their minds.
