Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice has come up with a 5-point plan that will, fingers crossed, see such a practice stopped – and at the same time, positively reinforce folks to keep their eyes on the road and to relegate the smartphone to a different place, one where it will not need much attention.
DA Rice did try to contact heads over at Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Blackberry, sending letters which urged the mentioned companies to include current third party technologies that are capable of blocking texting while driving so that integration into the relevant mobile operating systems would automatically see users “forced” to get used to this new idea. Apple already has a patent on one such possible solution, so why not make the most of it?
