Over in the US, it has been reported that Apple’s iPhone tends to be a favorite amongst thieves. This is because there is high demand for the iPhone in the black market and it can usually be resold at a higher price compared to other brands. That being said, it seems that over in the UK, the iPhone has proven to be a high-value target as well.
This is according to a new report published by the UK government dubbed the Mobile Phone Theft Ratio. Basically it found that devices such as the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, the iPhone 5s, and the iPhone 4S were the most targeted, and oddly enough this was followed by the BlackBerry 9790.
The report goes on to state that women and those aged between 14-24 year olds tend to be the group that has their phones stolen, and that pickpocketing and times when handsets are left unattended are usually how phones are stolen. The goal of the report is to provide consumers with information to help them make their next purchase, so if you’re worried about smartphone theft, then perhaps the iPhone might not be the way to go.
However the Home Office did note that things have improved thanks to security features which are being implemented in smartphones as of late. A report from a few months ago revealed that Activation Lock in iOS actually led to a decrease in smartphone theft, but what do you guys think? Will the likelihood of your device being stolen put you off from purchasing it?
