Soon after pre-orders for Apple’s new smartphones went live it was reported that shipping estimates for the iPhone 6 Plus have slipped to 3-4 weeks. Even before this 5.5-inch iPhone 6 model was unveiled there were rumors its supply will be constrained at launch. A new rumor is making the rounds today regarding possible supply shortage of the iPhone 6 Plus.
Apple employees who work on the day its new iPhones are released have the opportunity to purchase one unit for personal use on the release day, in iPhone 6’s case, that’s September 19th.
A tweeted photo making the rounds purportedly shows Apple’s direction to employees who want to pick up an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus unit on release day. Looks like the company’s employees are only being allowed to purchase one iPhone 6 unit, and there’s no mention of the iPhone 6 Plus.
Apparently the employees who work the overnight or morning shift on Friday, September 19th will be able to reserve one unit for personal use but only of the iPhone 6, not the iPhone 6 Plus. Employees who work the afternoon shift on release day or those who have the day off will get the chance to either queue with customers or purchase from any unsold inventory left at the store at the day’s end, but even those employees will only be able to get their hands on one unit of the iPhone 6.
Apple rarely ever confirms the demand supply situation of its new devices so we can’t hold out on official word from the company, but if all of these indications are true, then it looks like the iPhone 6 Plus supply really is tight at launch.
