While the iPhone 6 might have launched in multiple countries, there were some who were a little concerned about the iPhone’s launch in China. This is because the device had yet to be officially certified, and with China being one of Apple’s newer and larger markets, it is an important one and a timely launch is key to Apple doing well.
In fact some have speculated that the phone could have been delayed, but thankfully it looks like phone has been officially certified and approved for sale in the country. This is according to a report from Reuters which revealed that Apple had cleared regulatory hurdles and has received the necessary licenses to sell the phone in the country.
Apparently Apple had agreed to some conditions laid out by regulators, such as making undisclosed changes to the privacy settings on the device. It seems that one of the concerns was whether Apple staff could access the data on an iPhone user’s device while repairing it. Apple has reassured regulators that they have never installed backdoors on its products or services that will allow access from government agencies.
The regulators’ skepticism is warranted as the Snowden reports have suggested that the US government’s NSA has the ability to spy on user data through backdoors installed on certain products. It has also been revealed that the iPhone 6 pre-orders for China will be kicking off on the 10th of October and will officially be going on sale come 17th of October.
