As you might have heard from Apple’s announcement earlier today, iOS 8 has been scheduled for a release on the 17th of September, a couple of days ahead of the release of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The good news is that it looks like things are definitely on track because according to reports, Apple has since seeded iOS 8’s Golden Master to developers.
For those unfamiliar with the Golden Master build, this is basically the final build in the beta and will be pretty much the same version as the one Apple plans on releasing to the public. iOS 8’s final release will pretty much come with the same improvements and new features that Apple announced earlier this year during WWDC.
For example we can look forward to the new Health app, Family Sharing, continuity features that will help bridge iOS devices and OS X devices, support for third-party keyboards, improved notifications, widgets, and more.
Now back in 2013, iOS 7’s files were uploaded to the internet and made public ahead of its release which allowed non-developers to download and install the update ahead of its official release. It was a pretty straightforward process and we have to wonder if the same thing could happen again in the coming weeks with iOS 8, so you can be sure that we will be keeping our eyes peeled for more information.
